Arsenal news: Alexandre Lacazette won’t be at the World Cup this summer
Despite scoring 17 goals in his debut season for Arsenal, Lacazette missed out on a place in the 23-man squad named by Didier Deschamps.
The France boss has an array of attacking options at his disposal including Olivier Giroud, who left Arsenal for Chelsea in January after losing his starting spot to Lacazette.
Speaking at the launch of Arsenal’s new 2018/19 away kit, Pires revealed he spoke to Lacazette about being omitted by France.
But the Arsenal legend believes the striker has what it takes to impress new manager Unai Emery.

He’s a professional, of course [but] he’s very upset
“He’s a professional, of course [but] he’s very upset,” Pires said.
“When you play for a team like Arsenal, your objective is to always play for your country.
“Especially this season because of the World Cup.
“Of course he was upset but he respects [Didier] Deschamps’ decision.
“But now for him it is very important to forget this, take a very good break with the family and kids and be ready for next season.
“I think Lacazette is very important for the squad. I believe in Alex.”
When asked if Lacazette can work alongside Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Pires added: “I think they can both play together because they have a very good feeling and communication on the field.
“They are both totally different but I think they can both play together.”
