Atomic Heart was formally announced and revealed this week – and it looks phenomenal.
The game, created by developer Mundfish, looks set to really shake-up the first-person shooter genre.
By the developer’s own admission, the game is classed as an ‘adventure’ first-person shooter, set during “an alternate universe during the high noon of the Soviet Union.”
The game will take you through a variety of different levels, having you fight what seems like decaying humans, horribly macabre machines, and failing machinations of a psychedelic Soviet empire.
As the trailer below suggests, the game will certainly have a lot of trippy sequences. We’re really interested to see how all this plays out.
Some news snippets from the alternate world of the game can be found over at its website.
These in-universe notes seem to hint at what we can expect from the game’s madcap story.
One story states:
“Machines are uprising! Robots are walking through the halls and corridors of the facility, killing everything that doesn’t consist of nuts and bolts. Avoid or kill them but beware the seeker boots!
“Even the toughest times can’t stop the two loving hearts from embracing each other. Explore the world of Atomic Heart to learn more about the love story between the two of employees of the facility #3826.”
“There are rumours between the workers of the facility – the mind-boggling, horrible ones. Tales of the dead rising back up and walking among the living, the abomination of an experiment conducted by Dr. Stockhausen himself…Look for all the clues leading to the horrible revelation, if you dare!”
Atomic Heart is planned for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One this year – no more specific dates have been announced yet.
We expect to hear more at E3 this year.
