Sebastian Stan plays Bucky in the Marvel movies and will play a pivotal role in the upcoming caper - due in cinemas later this month.

Several MCU heroes are thought to be exiting the franchise in this movie, as well as its as-yet-untitled sequel Avengers 4, due later this year.

With ongoing speculation around Evans’s contract coming to an end, it has been theorised that his character will be a victim of supervillain Thanos (Josh Brolin) at some point.

But Stan appeared to put a dampener on the rumour - or at least he remained coy on it.

Speaking in London at the weekend, he told Metro: “He certainly didn’t die when I was there. If he did I haven’t seen it.”

Of course the film’s stars are sworn to secrecy - so even if Stan did know that Evans would be making an exit in Infinity War, he wouldn’t be able to say.

Nevertheless, we can perhaps conclude from his brief statement that either Evans won’t quite be leaving yet, or that he’ll be leaving in scenes that don’t involve Bucky.

It’s certainly feasible for actors to be unaware of each-other’s fates: as Tom Holland (Spider-Man) has revealed that he, for one, wasn’t allowed to read the full script.

“There are countless things I’ve spoilt [so] I wasn’t allowed to read the script,” he said on The Graham Norton Show last week.

“So I’d be on set and be working with actors and actresses that were just tennis balls, and so I’d be texting people - ‘Hey, are you in this scene with Spider-Man?’ – and they’d say no so it’s cool, I’ll just cross that [name] off a list of 40 people.”

Avengers: Infinity War is out on April 26.
