EA has finally confirmed when we’ll be getting more Battlefield news.

Via the Battlefield 1 Discord, it was discovered that EA had but a morse code message into Battlefield 1 itself.

After completing the Isolement easter egg, players would notice ceiling pieces form a Morse Code message that seems to spell out “Battlefield will never be the same”

This is accompanied by a picture of a white horse. This could either hint at more horse-based combat in the new game, or be a reference to death – the rider of the apocalypse that rode the white horse.

The full message from EA seems to read “On May 23, Battlefield will never be the same”.

That message can be read here.

It’s an interesting setup, but it seems to suggest we’re going to get our first proper look at the game on May 23 – perhaps with a more in-depth look at the title following at EA Play at E3 later in the year.

This follows rumours that the next Battlefield game will in fact be Bad Company 3 – despite previous rumours that have suggested the opposite.

Gamerant reports that a tweet from an alleged DICE developer was posted on Reddit, which seemingly confirmed that the next entry will be Battlefield: Bad Company 3.

The tweet in question comes from an account followed by the Battlefield account itself, as well as members of the DICE studio.

Since publication, the tweet was removed and the account made private. Make of that what you will.

This rumour contradicts previous rumours around the game, however.

Last year, reports circulated about a new Battlefield game in development courtesy of Battlefield YouTuber TheAlmightyDaq.

TheAlmightyDaq accurately predicted a lot of information about Battlefield 1 ahead of its release, leading to many sites trusting his reportage.

He reported that Battlefield: Bad Company 3 was in development last year, but later he uploaded another video claiming there were two Battlefield games in development – rather than just one.

Daq reports that the Bad Company 3 game will launch in 2019, developed by DICE LA who are responsible for a lot of the post-launch Battlefield 1 content.

The 2018 Battlefield offering will instead be a World War 2 game from DICE Sweden – main developers of the franchise – and will be a spiritual sequel to Battlefield 1.

According to Eurogamer, the rumoured Battlefield Bad Company 3 game will be set in a “mid and post-Vietnam conflict” setting, and game modes will include Conquest, Rush, Operations, Domination and Team Deathmatch.

As per the series so far, the game will also include ‘era-appropriate’ guns.

In terms of gameplay, Engineer, Support, Assault and Recon classes are rumoured to return, alongside helicopters, LAVs, modern tanks and more besides.

It seems pretty clear that there are two Battlefield projects in development, but depending on what studio is working on which game, we could see an announcement of Bad Company of Battlefield WW2
