Boris Johnson today warned about the chaos that could be caused if there was to be another vote on Britain’s EU membership.

And Conservative MP Mr Blunt reiterated that Britons had made their decision on leaving the EU and the Government was now implementing that choice.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk Mr Blunt explained exactly why there should not be another vote.

He said: “It will throw British politics into chaos for decades to come if we have to revisit this.

Brexit news: Crispin Blunt dismissed the idea of the UK having another Brexit vote

“The country made a decision and now we are executing the decision to leave the . Obviously, there is a discussion going on with what terms that is going to be on.

“But the decision has been made and it was crystal clear when the whole legislation around the referendum went through Parliament, that Parliament was giving that decision to the British people.

“The British people have made their decision.”

Mr Blunt added from a constitutional point of view, Brexit could be overturned, but claimed that would be denying the British people what they voted for.

He said: “Constitutionally it is possible because formally sovereignty sits in that place. But that place over there gave explicitly the decision to the British people.

“It’s by a very large majority exercised noticed to the European Union that we are going to leave.

“There is minority of opinion that Article 50 notification is revokable, most of it says it isn’t and that we have given notice and that is it.

“If, of course, Parliament and all 27 of our EU partners decided that they actually wanted to do something different, they could, but they have forgotten one small element, the people here have actually made a decision.”

Mr Blunt added the British people were made aware of the consequences of Brexit, but added that it was a long-term decision.

He said: “The British people made a decision, it was explicitly put to them in the campaign what the consequences of that decision were going to be.

“In fact, they were told that there was going to be an immediate financial crisis, the economy would instantly tank. Those things haven’t happened, but even if they had, people couldn’t say they hadn’t been warned when they took the decision to Leave the European Union. This was a longterm decision.”

His comments come after the Foreign Secretary warned about the impact of having another Brexit vote.

Speaking today in London, Mr Johnson said: “I say to my remaining Remainer friends – actually quite a numerous bunch – more people voted for Brexit than have ever voted for anything in the history of this country.

“And I just say in all candour that if there were to be a second vote, I really think it would be another year, of turmoil and wrangling, and feuding in which the whole country would be the loser. So, let’s not go there!

“Let’s instead unite about what we all believe in and outward-looking, liberal, global, future for a confident United Kingdom. Because so much of this is about confidence and self-belief.”
