Chelsea news: Antonio Conte digs his heels over compensation
Conte is expected to be relieved of his duties at Chelsea, which would see him paid £9m.
However Chelsea have been encouraged by Real Madrid’s interest in the hope they will be able to appoint a new manager without having to pay Conte off.
But it is understood Conte will not walk away from Chelsea without reaching some sort of compensation deal after signing a new contract last summer.
And he appears willing to put a new job at risk by standing firm on his Chelsea agreement.
Chelsea are in limbo over their next move with Roman Abramovich still not allowed back into the UK.
Antonio Conte will not leave Chelsea without a compensation agreement
Marina Granovskaia has flown to Russia to meet the owner and is not back until Sunday, with little movement expected until then.
Laurent Blanc seems to be the most plausible appointment at this stage for Chelsea with no compensation to pay and his record in France.
Interest in Maurizio Sarri has cooled with Chelsea loathed to pay compensation for a manager who has already been replaced at Napoli.
There are also concerns over elements of Sarri’s past with derogatory comments coming back to haunt him.
There is also unease with Sarri’s demeanour and question marks over if he would fit in the England game.
But Conte’s situation is taking the front seat for the time being.
Chelsea had hoped he would offer his resignation after a frustrating season in which he regularly complained of the constraints place on him.
The Italian was linked with a number of jobs towards the end of last season but PSG, appointed Thomas Tuchel, Napoli Carlo Ancelotti and Max Allegri is staying at Juve.
Conte is showing no signs of letting up while he is due compensation.
The most likely outcome remains Conte leaving and agreeing a portion of the £9m compensation, but neither side is ready to budge yet.
