EA Play 2018

EA Play 2018 – New Star Wars game, FIFA 19 and Battlefield 5 Battle Royale E3 reveals?

is the first major gaming event of the E3 2018 festivities.

EA Play 2018 marks the third year that the California-based gaming giant has done their own thing outside the official E3 show floor.

Taking place one day ahead of the Microsoft and Bethesda conferences, it means EA gets the attention of the whole gaming world early on during E3.

But what can gamers expect from EA Play 2018?

Last year during the EA Play event the latest instalments of big name franchises were announced.

However, there were also a few surprises – most notably the announcement of co-op prison game A Way Out.

And with EA Play 2018 gamers may also be in store for some surprise reveals alongside some staple announcements.

Ahead of EA Play 2018 and E3 2018 kicking off, Express.co.uk has rounded up some games that could get showcased in LA today.

EA PLAY 2018 – NEW STAR WARS GAME SET FOR REVEAL?

EA has one mysterious Star Wars game up their sleeves that fans would love to get a look at.

It all starts back in 2013, when Dead Space developer Visceral began work on a brand new Star Wars game.

Naughty Dog’s brilliant Amy Hennig, who wrote the first three Unchartered games, was brought onboard as a creative lead for the project.

Hennig was working with another big name player, Assassin’s Creed visionary Jade Raymond, on the game.

The Visceral developed Star Wars game was described as a “story-based, linear adventure” in the style of the Nathan Drake series.

It had all the hallmarks of a sure-fire hit.

EA Play 2018 could showcase more on the revamped Visceral Star Wars project

Fans had seen the potential in an action-adventure single player Star Wars game with trailers for the cancelled Star Wars 1313 project.

It was hoped the Visceral game could fill the gap that defunct LucasArts project left behind.

However, in October 2017 EA revealed they were shutting down Visceral Games studio and making changes to their Star Wars project.

At the time EA executive vice president Patrick Söderlund said a “significant change” would be made to the title.

He said: “Throughout the development process, we have been testing the game concept with players, listening to the feedback about what and how they want to play, and closely tracking fundamental shifts in the marketplace.

“It has become clear that to deliver an experience that players will want to come back to and enjoy for a long time to come, we needed to pivot the design. We will maintain the stunning visuals, authenticity in the Star Wars universe, and focus on bringing a Star Wars story to life.

“Importantly, we are shifting the game to be a broader experience that allows for more variety and player agency, leaning into the capabilities of our Frostbite engine and reimagining central elements of the game to give players a Star Wars adventure of greater depth and breadth to explore.”

A new development team has taken over the project, which originally had a release date pencilled in for the 2019 financial year.

It remains to be seen when the revamped Star Wars game will be released, and what shape or form it could take.

However, if EA are hoping to build excitement for the project then the perfect place to give a glimpse of it would be during EA Play 2018.

EA PLAY 2018 – BATTLEFIELD 5

EA last month lifted the lid on Battlefield 5, which sees the DICE shooter return to its Second World War roots.

So far a brief teaser trailer has been revealed and EA Play 2018 more may be revealed on its single player campaign and multiplayer.

Battlefield 5 has also been rumoured, like Call of Duty 4 Black Ops, to go up against Fortnite and PUBG with its own Battle Royale mode.

If that’s the case then E3 2018 would be the perfect place to announce a mode that would generate huge fan excitement.

EA PLAY 2018 – ANTHEM

BioWare’s next game Anthem made a huge impression when it was revealed at E3 2017.

A stunning looking shared-world action-RPG, it seems to be the game Mass Effect fans hoped Andromeda would be.

A new trailer and potentially a fresh gameplay demo could be shown during the event, while fans are also hoping to see more on how the multiplayer will function.

EA PLAY 2018 – FIFA, MADDEN, NEED FOR SPEED

The latest version of FIFA – FIFA 19 – should get showcased at EA Play 2018 as it should Madden NFL 19, NHL 19 and NBA Live 19.

Last year Need for Speed Payback was announced during EA Play 2017, so the next instalment in the bestselling series could also get a big reveal.
