The coin, minted in 2016, is a silver proof coin, which makes it one of the rarest varieties.

A new silver proof Peter Rabbit 50p coin is being sold by Royal Mint for 2018 currently, but all of the £60 coins have been reserved.

The specific piece has proved quite a hit with the collectors.

This coin was sold by eBay user “j911knv”, from Newbridge, who said of the coin: “This is the official coin produced by The Royal Mint to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of Beatrix Potter.

“Only 15,000 of this coin were produced and has subsequently been discontinued.

“This is the most popular coin out of the Beatrix Potter coin collection and was quickly sold out within a few days.”

The item comes beautifully presented in a Perspex box with an information booklet inspired by Beatrix Potter’s own illustrations.

A bidding war broke out over this piece, and 12 bids in total were made on it by six bidders.

The Royal Mint Beatrix Potter coins are some of the most cherished among the mint’s creations.
