Google Maps Street View: What is the story behind the dark road?
Google Maps Street View was created in 2007 to be able to provide addresses and destinations for users across the globe.
Just two years after the creation of Google Maps in 2005, it has since become one of the best ways to plane routes when driving or visiting a country.
The famous 360-degree cameras placed on top of Google vehicles use photography spliced together to create a seamless effect.
Sometimes people are inadvertently caught by the camera but their faces are blurred out for privacy concerns.
A very creepy sight was spotted when driving through Arizona.
Apart from car headlights and road markings, nothing can be spotted for miles
The Google Maps Street View car was driving along a road aptly named Black Canyon just north of Phoenix.
The images appear to ave been taken at night, the entire street is blacked out.
Apart from car headlights and road markings, nothing can be spotted for miles.
It begs the questions why the images were taken seeing as nothing can be seen in the area.
Images taken at night are very rare on Google Maps, most are taken in the day.
Google Maps Street View: The car rarely drives at night due to the low quality images taken
Yet a Reddit user explained the benefits of night-time Google Maps drivers.
They wrote: “You’re right that satellite imagery at night would be kinda pointless (aside from seeing all the pretty lights) but I think there’s a case to be made for night-time Street View.
“For one, I’d like to be able to see how well-lit an area is once the sun goes down.
“You might think twice about parking your car somewhere or waiting at a given bus stop if you know it’s going to be shrouded in shadow when you get there.
“It could help with nighttime navigation. Signs or landmarks that are easy to spot during the day might be invisible at night, while the opposite is true for neons and the like.”
Google Maps Street View: The miles of dark road are found about Phoenix, Arizona
A mysterious figure on a deserted road also recently raised questions when spotted by the Google camera.
Found in Roswell, home to conspiracy theories of UFOs and alien lifeforms, a secluded woman can be seen walking along the street.
The lone person is wearing a short dress and heels whilst dragging a suitcase behind her.
She doesn’t appear to be a hiker thanks to her attire, but where she has come from is unknown.
The road, not often used by pedestrians, has baffled many.
