games leak: Is THIS massive game releasing in 2018?" data-w="620" data-h="420"/>UBISOFT
It looks like another big Ubisoft game has leaked ahead of its official reveal.
Earlier this month, we saw The Division 2 leaked ahead of time thanks to a rogue press release doing the rounds on various gaming and tech sites.
This time, the Canadian arm of Amazon has revealed a new Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell game will be releasing this year.
The listing came with an item model number on the mobile listing of Amazon's site that 'E3TomClancy’sSplinterCell2018_PC'.
So that means we're likely to see the game on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
Considering that the listing has gone up with 2018 at the end, too, it's likely we could see the game announced at E3 with a short marketing period, launching in Q4 this year.
It would make sense: Ubisoft has said there'll be another triple-A launch this year, but neglected to say what it was. It's very likely it'll be the next entry in the Splinter Cell series.
The game goes without a formal name or release date yet, but we expect to hear more from Ubisoft soon.
WCCFTech reported on a potential new Splinter Cell game, with Michael Ironside reprising his role of Sam Fisher in the game, back in 2016.
“Regarding other games, I haven’t been involved with Steep or Wildlands, but I was surprised Splinter Cell didn’t appear at E3”, Neogaf user Crossing Eden stated at the time.
“I know Ironside is back. He was in the studio, I said Hi to him and his daughter. He was shooting a movie with Amy Jo Johnson, and I know someone who worked on that set and Ironside confirmed to him he was doing the new Splinter Cell.
"I know Toronto has the mocap studio for it.I’m hoping to hear or see something unofficial, if not official, this year, but its been hard to get anything beyond “It’s Happening”.
We're intrigued to hear more about the future of the series - something we've not seen much movement on since Splinter Cell: Blacklist released in 2018.
Ubisoft is changing its release tactics up this year.
First of all, the company has announced that upcoming release Far Cry 5 is on track to be the biggest launch in the series' history and that it could even be the biggest games launch in the first half of 2018.
This is according to a Ubisoft investors' call where the developer and publisher outlined its expectations for various projects and products over the next financial year.
Considering the previous numbers available for Far Cry 3 (the last best selling game in the series) peg the game at roughly 10,000,000 sales, Ubisoft clearly has high hopes for Far Cry 5.
Pre-order numbers apparently back up Ubisoft's confidence in the new game, too - the game is tracking very well, according to the company, and it clearly expects to shift over 10 million units within the year.
After the game suffered various delays, it could have seen a negative reception, but this news seems to suggest Ubisoft has put itself in a stronger position with the new release date of 27th March 2018.
Yves Guillemot (Ubisoft boss) has also suggested that last year's offering of Assassin's Creed: Origins will instead fill that role, supported with updates and DLC to ensure players have enough content for the game to last all year.
The publisher is changing with the times, and we're eager to see what this means for Splinter Cell.
