Kingdom Hearts 3 is yet another Square Enix RPG that has been in development for years.
The release date on Xbox One and PS4 is listed as having a street date of December 31.
This seems like an odd date for the title, but if the date is a placeholder, it's at least interesting to note that it's set for 2018.
Considering we're starting to get more information about the title surfacing in the form of previews and new trailers, we're confident that the game will indeed release this year. We're curious to see more from the product at E3 this year.
Kingdom Hearts 3 was announced way back in June 2013 at Sony’s E3 press conference - even then the game had an expected release date of 2017: a long time in the future back then.
By early January 2017, Kingdom Hearts 3 was rumoured to be at least another year away. Nice to see we're finally closing in on the home stretch (in theory).
It's been a long wait, but it looks like it might be worth it.
Kingdom Hearts 3 - Overview

Platforms: PS4, Xbox One
Developer: Square Enix

What is Kingdom Hearts 3?
Kingdom Hearts 3 is the third fully numbered entry in the esteemed JRPG series that merges the worlds of Final Fantasy and Disney together.
The game will see main characters Sora, Donald Duck and Goofy return and travel across a slew of Disney and Final Fantasy worlds in order to battle the ever-encroaching forces of darkness.
Set after the events of Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, returning protagonist Sora is joined by Donald Duck, Goofy, King Mickey and Riku in their search for the seven Guardians of Light and the "Key to Return Hearts" as they attempt to thwart Master Xehanort's plan to bring about a second Keyblade War.
Kingdom Hearts 3 - Confirmed Worlds
The main draw of Kingdom Hearts has always been the way it merges Final Fantasy and Disney properties into one sprawling universe... but which worlds have been confirmed to appear in Kingdom Hearts 3 so far?
It's worth noting that Disney properties now include Marvel, Pixar, Star Wars and Fox - whether or not we see any of these appear in the game remains to be seen.
Here's what we know for sure are coming:
• Kingdom of Corona (Tangled)
• Big Hero 6
• Mount Olympus
• Twilight Town
• Mysterious Tower
• Toy Story
Kingdom Hearts 3 - Development
Concepts for the next entry in the series began as early as 2006, after the release of Kingdom Hearts II: Final Mix in Japan.
The game was not formally confirmed to be in development until E3 2013, after years of rumors and speculation.
Kingdom Hearts III sees many returning gameplay features from the series, while introducing new "Attraction Flow" attacks that incorporate various Disney Parks attractions.
Kingdom Hearts III will be developed by Square Enix's 1st Production Department, who developed Birth by Sleep, Dream Drop Distance, and worked on the HD 1.5 Remix collection.
The development team will be headed up by Tetsuya Nomura, who is best known for his work on the Final Fantasy games.
Bill Farmer, the English voice actor for Goofy, stated in January 2015 that he had completed his voice acting for the game - suggesting there is a lot of work being done on graphics, or new story being added to the game currently.
