Liverpool transfer news: Emre Can and Jon Flanagan are leaving the club
The Reds have announced their retained list of players for the 2018/19 season and Jon Flanagan and Emre Can are the big names leaving the club.
It ends months of speculation over the latter's situation with the German having refused to sign a new deal.
Can has been strongly linked with a move to Juventus in recent months despite Jurgen Klopp being keen to keep him on.
Can, who joined the Reds from Bayer Leverkusen in 2014, made his 167th and final appearance for Liverpool in last month’s Champions League final defeat by Real Madrid.
Academy graduate Flanagan, meanwhile, departs having featured in 51 senior games following his 2011 debut against Manchester City.
Liverpool transfer news: Reds fans are desperate to hear the news of Nabil Fekir's signing
Youth players Toni Gomes, Paulo Alves, Mich'el Parker, Jordan Williams, Anthony Glennon, Jordan Hunter and Harvey Whyte will also depart, while Yan Dhanda has agreed a free transfer to Swansea City.
New contracts have been offered to U23s duo George Johnston and Conor Masterson.
A club statement read: "Everybody at Liverpool FC thanks all departing players for their contributions and wishes them the best of luck for the future."
But news of Liverpool's announcement only infuriated fans who are desperately awaiting the confirmation of Nabil Fekir.
The France midfielder has completed his medical with the Reds and his £53m arrival from Lyon is due to be confirmed today.
And it's fair to say Liverpool fans weren't interested in the news surrounding Can and Flanagan.
“No way was this what I was hoping for at 5”, tweeted one fan.
“THATS NOT FEKIR FFS”, another replied.
A third said: “I didn't turn on your notifications to see Emre Can and Flanagan leaving announcement, it's 5pm announce Fekir what are you waiting for”.
"Thanks for everything Emre, now announce Nabil Fekir ffs”, a fourth quipped.
