Simon Mignolet has been dropped by Jurgen Klopp
Liverpool have had problems finding a first-choice goalkeeper ever since Pepe Reina’s departure to Bayern Munich in 2014.
Simon Mignolet has at times stamped his authority on the No 1 jersey but is prone to errors and was dropped by Jurgen Klopp last month.
Summer signing Loris Karius has since filled his boots, starting the last five Premier League games and is expected to keep his place against Porto tomorrow (7.45pm).
And when asked if Mignolet’s recent lack of involvement meant he could be on his way out at Anfield, Klopp was coy in his response.
Simon Mignolet’s long-term future at Liverpool has been brought into question after he was dropped
“Nobody knows about his future. I don’t know about it,” he said.
“It says nothing about it.
“It’s not about me to think about these things. I have to make a decision for tomorrow night, that’s all.”
Karius has been the favoured goalkeeper in the Champions League this season, with Mignolet only featuring in the two qualifiers against Hoffenheim.
And Klopp insisted the major focus should be on getting a result against Porto who are an experienced Champions League opponent.
“On a good day we are really strong, but we need to be outstandingly strong to get a result against Porto,” he added.
“They are very experienced, very physical, hard, good footballers, good plan, it’s quite a job to do.
“That’s all we are focused on.”
