Alderweireld update

Man Utd and Tottenham held talks over a deal for Toby Alderweireld – but the deal broke down as the two clubs were £20million apart in their valuations.

United are keen on strengthening their defence with Belgium centre-back Alderweireld potentially available.

Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge understands discussions were had between the Premier League giants but the price has proven a stumbling block.

“Alex Ferguson said in his book that Daniel Levy was more painful than his hip replacement and that’s not changed,” Bridge told the Transfer Talk podcast.

“They did want Toby, whether they still want him as much remains to be seen.

“From what I know at the time and still now is that he valuation between the two clubs were so far apart – nearly up to £20million.”

United’s £50m Maguire move

Manchester United are now the clear favourites to land Harry Maguire as talk intensifies over a £50m transfer.

United have been the long-time front-runners to sign Maguire.

And the bookmakers are suggesting a deal is now close to completion.

Maguire’s odds for a move to Old Trafford have dropped from 6/1 to 9/4 in the space of 24 hours, with punters flocking to back the 25-year-old joining Old Trafford.

Liverpool are second favourites to sign Maguire this summer at 9/2, while Chelsea and Manchester City can both be backed at 10/1.

Maguire is 16/1 to join Unai Emery’s revolution at Arsenal before next month’s transfer deadline.

“Harry Maguire was one of the stars of the England team at the World Cup and punters feel Manchester United are going to pursue the defender and make him their man before the Premier League season begins,” said Coral’s John Hill.

Barca make second Willian bid

Barcelona have made a second bid for Chelsea’s Willian.

The Spanish giants originally made a bid of £50million for Willian last week and talks are still ongoing for the Brazilian.

United boss Jose Mourinho is also believed to be interested in reuniting with Willian however there has been no bid made from Manchester.

And Barcelona look to have made another step to get their man with Sky Sports reporting they have made a bid up to £53m for Willian.

It’s also understood that Nou Camp chiefs began their pursuit of Willian up to three months ago.

Bale talks

Man Utd are closing in on Real Madrid superstar Gareth Bale.

The Wales international is a long-term target for the Red Devils.

Jose Mourinho tried to sign the former Tottenham star last summer, however, Real refused to sell the winger, 28.

And according to the Manchester Evening News, talks over United signing Bale are at an advanced stage.

They reckon Mourinho wants to make the forward his next summer signing, with the Special One keen to sign a new right winger.

Bale will reportedly have the final say on whether he joins the Red Devils this summer.
