The feature can only be performed when the user is connected to a Wi-Fi network
The streaming service has introduced a Smart Downloads feature that will automatically delete episodes of series’ that have been played and will replace them with the next one.
The feature can only be performed when the user is connected to a Wi-Fi network.
Android users can take advantage of the new update on both phones and tablets running the Google operating system.
If users wish to disable the feature, they simply have to switch the Smart Downloads toggle off in the Downloads menu.
Smart Downloads will only work with TV shows that you can already download on the streaming service.
It will not work with movies on Netflix.
Cameron Johnson, the streaming service’s Director of Product Innovation, said: “Netflix isn’t intelligent enough to figure out the exact movie you might want to watch next yet!”
He also told BuzzFeed iOS users will miss out on the new feature for now.
Mr Johnson added the feature will roll out to Apple users “later this year”.
Netflix has previously emphasised its download feature was implemented to help increase demand from “young people who really like doing that, dropping the things on their phone, and also people who do short-haul commuting who basically don’t have a dependable signal on the train and all those different things”.

The streaming service’s Chief Content Officer, Ted Sarandos, added: “We actually wind up serving parts of Latin America and big chunks of Asia much better than we used to.
Back in January Netflix announced it almost had 118million subscribers.
Users are able to download the application for the streaming service through the Google Play Store.
