The Overwatch Anniversary end date is fast approaching

Blizzard fans don’t have long until the end of the Overwatch Anniversary event.

To make the news a little easier to swallow, the development team have also decided to launch a new double XP weekend too.

Blizzard’s Overwatch Anniversary event end date is set for June 11 in North America, with the double XP running out at around the same time on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Earning double the experience will remain open until June 11th at 11:59pm PDT.

Because of the time difference, UK players can keep earning extra experience until 7.59am on the morning of June 12.

When it comes to the exact Anniversary event end time, Blizzard have yet to reveal when everything officially finishes.

There’s a chance that both events will end at the same time, however, Blizzard have yet to reveal more on the subject.

The development team could also opt to wrap things up at around the same time the event started, so perhaps 4pm, BST.

When it comes to double XP, this bonus will apply to nearly all sources of in-game XP, including:

  • Time spent in a match
  • Completing a match
  • Completing consecutive matches
  • Winning a match
  • Backfilling a match in progress
  • Earning medals

It will also stack multiplicatively with existing group and IGR bonuses. The only experience it will not affect is your First Win of the Day bonus—which will remain at 1500 XP.

This year’s Anniversary event brought back skins and items from past Overwatch events, not to mention returning brawls and a brand new free-for-all deathmatch map called Petra.

This also meant that Blizzard threw in a few new Legendary skins, some of which can be found in the gallery above.

Petra, meanwhile, is described as a beautiful map with unique gameplay elements.

This includes a mega health pack in the centre of the map, which is sure to become a hotly contested zone among players.

“A group of archaeologists have begun an excavation and preservation project among the ruins of Petra, a new Deathmatch map that puts all heroes on their own, facing off against one another until one hero scores enough eliminations to win the match,” reads a Blizzard post.

“Take in Petra’s majestic views, from high vistas to twisting passageways and deep caverns.”

The Anniversary 2018 event also ushered in a new deathmatch season, which sees solo players compete for exclusive rewards.

Every Anniversary Loot Box is guaranteed to have at least one of more than 190 Anniversary event items, including 60+ new items for this year.

It was also confirmed that each Anniversary Loot Box can contain loot from past seasonal events.

Each purchase of the 50 Anniversary Loot Boxes bundle also includes one bonus Legendary Anniversary Loot Box.
