Pokemon GO Pikachu Event COUNTDOWN: Anniversary Start Time, Celebi news and more

Pokemon Go’s second anniversary is already here.

It may seem like just yesterday the world was wrapped up in the Pokemon Go phenomenon for the first time, but already the game is celebrating two years’ of history.

Similarly to last year’s celebrations, Niantic has opted to push out something special to commemorate Pokemon Go turning two years old.

This year, we have another hat-themed Pikachu – but this time it’s not a party hat… it’s a Pikachu wearing sunglasses and a straw hat!

This event will run starting on July 6th (usually at around 1pm PDT) and will continue until July 31st, giving you 25 days to catch the special lil’ monster.

That means UK players may have to wait until roughly 9pm tonight before the event starts in their region.

That’s not the only thing Niantic has confirmed for the summer celebration, though.

As Niantic notes:

• Can’t get enough Pikachu? Pikachu Fan Avatar items will be available for purchase! Trainers with a gold Pikachu Fan medal will be able to purchase all related items, which include a T-shirt and Pikachu ears.

That means you simply have to catch 300 Pikachu (good luck!) and you’ll be able to buy Pika-based items in the shop.

Niantic has one more announcement, too…

• We’re excited to announce that Special Research on the Mythical Pokémon Celebi will be available globally in the near future. So stay tuned, Trainers, and get out there and GO!

That means you can expect to see the Gen 2 mythical Pokemon appear in-game soon!

There are two more events on the horizon beyond last weekend’s activities in Dortmund.

The next one is Pokemon Go Fest Chicago, which takes place in Lincoln Park, Chicago on July 14 and July 15.

Those attending will be able to catch Shiny Plusle and Shiny Minun as well as Alolan Diglett and Alolan Geodude.

Following that, it’s back over to Japan for another Pokemon Go Safari Zone in Yokosuka, although a specific location has yet to be named.
