Roger Federer has praised Serena Williams for her swift return

Williams is back on tour and recently made her first appearance for the first time since January 2017.

The US star was beaten at Indian Wells by sister Venus yesterday, with her sibling triumphing 6-3 6-4 to make the last-16 of the competition.

Roger Federer, on the men’s tour, is thriving with the Swiss star currently world No 1 again and favourite to win the Wimbledon and US Open titles later in the year.

But, regardless of what the 36-year-old achieves, Federer has revealed he thinks Serena’s comeback is even bigger news.

“I think that’s going to be a huge story, maybe the story of the year,” he said.

“Hopefully she decides to play a lot and enjoy herself in the process and get back to who knows how high?

“It almost doesn’t matter, but it would just be amazing to see her do it now.”

Serena’s pregnancy was far from straightforward.

The 36-year-old suffered from a pulmonary embolism, before broken stitching from her c-section burst open.

That left her bed bound for six weeks.

And Williams has recently shed some light on her early mothership troubles.

“Sometimes I get really down and feel like, Man, I can’t do this,” she told Vogue.

“It’s that same negative attitude I have on the court sometimes. I guess that’s just who I am.

“No one talks about the low moments—the pressure you feel, the incredible letdown every time you hear the baby cry.

“I’ve broken down I don’t know how many times. Or I’ll get angry about the crying, then sad about being angry, and then guilty, like, Why do I feel so sad when I have a beautiful baby? The emotions are insane.”
