Thandie Newton plays Val in Solo: A Star Wars Story

The Star Wars spin-off, starring Alden Ehrenreich as the iconic Han Solo, is out later this month and is expected to trump the opening box office gross of previous anthology tale Rogue One in 2016.

Last night Woody Harrelson – who plays Beckett – appeared on Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night chatshow, where the new snippet was shared.

It shows Beckett and Val arriving somewhere and plotting to “take out” nearby guards, before Han sticks his nose in.

“I just couldn’t help but notice you’re wearing a uniform full of laser burns, so either you heal real quick or you stole it off a dead man,” Han shoots back.

Little had been revealed about Newton’s role

“You’re not with the imperial army! You’re thieves here to steal equipment for a job… and I want in.”

Han’s speech doesn’t go down well with Val, who shoves her gun into his front and says, “well now we’ve got to shoot him.”

“Snap is neck, it’s less mess,” Beckett deadpans.

It’s the first time we’ve heard Val speak, after she was seen in a fleeting shot in one of the previous trailers.

Harrelson said of the footage: “I’m just very happy you guys got to see Alden Ehrenreich who is a great actor and incredibly charismatic.

“He’s Han Solo and I think you guys are really gonna love him. I really do.”

Harrelson had to be careful not to divulge any plot spoilers; something film bosses know he has a habit of doing.

“They know that I’m a little loose sometimes, fast and loose!” he quipped.

“It’s done well for me over the years but in this particular context they send these guys [stormtroopers] with me.”

Solo: A Star Wars Story is out on May 24.
