Shaun White is aiming to win his third Winter Olympics gold medal
The American is arguably one of the recognised Winter Olympians in Pyeongchang this year and is aiming to take home his third gold medal.
He won gold in both the 2006 and 2010 Winter Olympics but sensationally flopped in the 2014 Sochi games.
White has come back with a vengeance in South Korea and proved he means business in the qualifying stages with a sensational score of 98.50.
The 31-year-old holds the record for most winter X Games gold medals with 13 but he has also won five skateboarding medals in the summer version.
Why is Shaun White nicknamed the ‘Flying Tomato’?
White has long been nicknamed the ‘Flying Tomato’, due to his highflying acrobats on the board and also his bright red hair.
It was reported he embraced the tag early on in his career, even wearing headbands with a flying-tomato logo.
And the nickname has certainly caught on in Pyeongchang, with White tucking into a ‘Flying Tomato’ burger at a restaurant in the village.
