World War 3 fears have been sparked after North Korea sent a warning shot to the US

North Korea’s state media said its “firm, steadfast” resolve to abadon its nukes may falter after the US demanded unilateral denuclearisation during two days of talks in Pyongyang.

On Saturday, the North’s official KCNA news agency said the result of talks with US  Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was “extremely troubling,” accusing it of insisting on complete, verifiable and irreversible denuclearisation.

The “fastest way” to achieve a nuclear-free Korean peninsula was through a phased approach under which both sides took steps at the same time, KCNA said in a statement citing an unnamed foreign ministry spokesperson.

Following the highly anticipated June 12 summit between Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un, the US President wrote on Twitter that “there is no longer a nuclear threat from North Korea”.

The bombshell threat, which betrays Kim’s promise to Donald Trump that he will halt all nuclear ambitions, came just moments after Mr Pompeo hailed progress in Pyongyang on setting a timeline to North Korea’s denuclearisation.

Speaking to reporters before leaving North Korea, Mr Pompeo said he spent “a good deal of time” discussing the timeline and declaration of the North’s nuclear and missile facilities.

The secretary said: “I think we made progress in every element of our discussions,” according to the report.

Concerns have been raised Kim’s hermit state has not given up expanding its nuclear arsenal, with Defcon Warning System announcing the threat level remained at five.

Defcon security experts said North Korea’s destruction of its nuclear facility was “superficial” and “insufficient” to destroy the uranium enrichment plant.

The threat comes just a few weeks after Mr Trump said a process of “total denuclearisation has already started” and that North Korea was blowing up four of its big test sites.
