Xherdan Shaqiri to Man Utd: Liverpool are determined to seal a Stoke transfer
Shaqiri is wanted by both Liverpool and Manchester United following Stoke’s relegation to the Championship.
The Reds earmarked him as a target last month in the wake of their failed pursuit of Lyon hotshot Nabil Fekir.
Manchester United, though, are also keen as Jose Mourinho targets the Premier League title at the third time of asking.
Liverpool, however, appear set to win the race for his signature.
And Albanian website Transferimet claim Klopp has two reasons for wanting to sign the former Inter Milan and Bayern Munich forward.
It is said the Liverpool boss is a huge admirer of Shaqiri’s skill on the ball.
The Reds already have a formidable attacking trio at their disposal in the form of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.
But Klopp feels Shaqiri’s trickery could make him a key asset for his side.
Transferimet also claim that the player’s cheap cost has also forced Liverpool’s hand.
The player is available for just £12million and, in this time of inflated transfer prices, could represent a shrewd piece of business.
Meanwhile, Shaqiri has admitted he wants to stay in England after Switzerland’s World Cup campaign.
Xherdan Shaqiri to Liverpool: Jurgen Klopp is battling Man Utd for Stoke star
The Stoke star said: “At the moment, I can’t say anything.
“You’re going to hear soon on my future.
“I was not thinking about this because I was just focused on my national team and I wanted to make a good tournament for my team and my nation.
“It’s pretty normal to be aware of clubs being interested. Of course, I would like to play on the biggest stage in football, everybody knows that.
“I hope I can stay in the Premier League. I hope so, but you never know with football. I don’t rule out anything.”
