That’s according to ESPN reporter Brian Windhorst, who suggests Toronto will definitely be putting together a package should they be made away the San Antonio Spurs are ready to trade Leonard.

While LeBron James, Paul George and DeMarcus Cousins have already secured their immediate future for the new season, where Leonard will be playing next season remains a mystery.

He played just nine games for the Spurs last year and during the playoffs reports emerged that Leonard had grown frustrated with San Antonio for how they handled his quad injury.

And he has seemingly made it clear he wants to leave the franchise this summer with the Spurs taking calls on a possible trade package.

They have so far been demanding too much for any team to move forward with negotiations but while the Lakers have been touted as his preferred destination, other teams have begun to show an interest.

The Philadelphia 76ers are continuing to monitor the situation but the Raptors have surprisingly emerged as the betting favourites to land Leonard.

And Windhorst has listed three reasons why Toronto could hold the edge on other teams in making a deal happen.

“The Raptors are definitely a team that a lot of executives think are fertile to making a big trade,” Windhorst said on SportsNet.

“They have a hoard of young prospects on their rookie contracts, which is what you want if you’re a team that’s starting a re-build.

“Secondly, they may see a window in the East with LeBron leaving… that’s been their block for the last few years and I’m not sure how they would fair against the Celtics or the 76ers but they certainly have to like their chances.

“They may see an opportunity, even on a one-year rental, to really go for it and I think that’s one of the reasons they’re up there.

“A third reason is because if the 76ers and the Celtics are not going to give away some of their prized young prospects, for example if Jaylen Brown isn’t on the table or Markelle Fultz isn’t on the table… that means that the Raptors have less of a burden to overcome.

“They don’t have a young player that has that much excitement around him like Jaylen Brown or Jayson Tatum.

“They do have good young players though if those guys [from the Celtisc and 76ers] are off the table, all of a sudden the Raptors package they can offer gets more interesting to the Spurs.

“If the Spurs decide to trade Kawhi… I don’t think they’re there yet that they’ve decided… they’re absolutely going to talk to the Raptors and the Raptors are probably going to put together a package.

“We’ll just have to see what the time and place is if it makes sense.”
